2.Time Collocations

How do you feel about it? 어떻게 생각해?

 

My past defines me.

Our thought ranges over the past, present, and future. 

I can only try to make a better future. That is my life history.

 

Time-poor people

Are you in a hurry? 시간에 쫒기고 있군요?

I am pressed for time. 시간에 쫒기다. / I am pressed for money. 돈에 쫒기다

We are cash-rich but time-poor.

 

I think we are slaves to time.

We’ve got digital clocks on smartphones, computers, microwaves, and bus stop-It’s hard to get away from it. 

Good timekeeping is extremely important. 시간을 잘 기록하는 것은 중요하다.

There are so many things to schedule in a day, and so many deadlines to meet......so we basically became a slaves to time.

 

Time flies so fast

Time is moving on 시간은 계속 흘러가고 있다 

Time is everything 시간이 힘이다               

Time is on your side 시간은 네 편이다

 

Run out of time / Time has run out 시간이 다 되다

Time is up 시간 다 됐다

It is time to go 가야할 시간이다

We are running out of time./ We have run out of time. 시간이 부족하다.

 

Few vs little

Q. Can I talk to you for a few minutes?       A. She said littel 별말 없었어

Q. Can I have a little salt in my soup?   A. The soup has very little taste. 아무맛이 안나

- I slept very little last night(간밤에 잠을 못잤어)

a little(긍정) interest(양)is(단수) better than none.약간의 관심이 없는것보다 낫다

a few(긍정)problems(수) are(복수)better than none. 몇가지 문제가 없는것보다 낫다

A little confusion(양) is nothing to worry about

a few complaints (수) are nothing to worry about 약간의 혼돈/불만은 걱정할 필요가 없다

Just a little interest in our new product is all I want. 우리신제품에 대한 약간의 관심이 내가 원하는 전부아

 

a little salt(양) in your food is not bad for you 

a few sweets(수) are not bad for you 

Few people understand the difference 그 차이를 이해하는 사람은 많지 않다

very few people know that 극소수만 알고 있다

(a number of people(소수의)numbers of people(다수의)=a large number of people)

 

Few(=very few) will argue with conclusion 이 결론에 이의제기하는 사람은 별로 (거의)없을꺼야

Time was precise enough for many people but we are seriously running out of time now. 많은 사람들에게 충분했다. 그러나 우리는 지금 심각한 시간부족 상태이다.

In the past, before people had mechanical timepieces, 기계식 시계를 사용하기 전

how did they know when to arrive at work, or when to finish?

They would have looked up at the sky and observed how the position of the Sun, the moon, and the stars changed as time passed. 시간이 지남에 따라

They had different reasons for wanting to know the time. 서로 다른 시간을 알고 싶어하는 이유가 있다.

People were concerned about the changing of the seasons and how this affected them when it was time to plant crops, or when to harvest them when the rainy season was going to start......사람들은 계절의 변화와 이것이 그들에게 미치는 영향에 대해 걱정했다.
